[GTM glossary](/glossary.txt) ABM orchestration ABM # ABM orchestration (ABM) In short ABM orchestration is the coordination of marketing, sales, and customer-facing activity around target accounts so touches happen in a planned order and do not collide. It decides who contacts which person, through which channel, and when. Where an ABM campaign is a single effort and ABM advertising is one channel, orchestration is the layer that connects them. Without it, an account may receive a cold call, a promotional email, and an ad on the same day from teams who never spoke. ## What gets orchestrated * **Timing:** Which touch follows which, and how long to wait between them. * **Channels:** Ads, email, calls, social, direct mail, events. * **Ownership:** Which rep or marketer owns each account and each contact. * **Triggers:** Signals that start, pause, or change a play. * **Suppression:** Rules that stop outreach to open deals or recent contacts. --- ## How to set it up ### Define the account stages Agree on stages such as unaware, aware, engaged, in conversation, and opportunity. Each stage gets its own play. ### Write the plays For each stage, list the actions and owners. Example: when two people at an account visit the pricing page, the account owner gets a task within one business day. ### Connect the data Orchestration depends on shared account data in your CRM and engagement tools. If systems disagree on who owns an account, the plays break. ### Review the handoffs Most failures happen between marketing and sales. Check weekly where accounts are stuck and who is waiting on whom. --- ## Example Say an account moves into the engaged stage after three people open emails and one views a case study. The plan pauses cold ads for that account, assigns the rep a call task, and sends the champion a tailored note. The ad team is told the account is in conversation so it does not get generic promotions. --- ## Orchestration vs. automation Automation executes a rule, such as sending an email when a form is filled. Orchestration decides which rules should exist for an account, in what order, and what overrides them. You can automate parts of it, but a person still owns the plan. --- ## Common mistakes * **Too many tools, no plan:** Software does not fix unclear ownership. * **No suppression rules:** Prospects get contradictory messages. * **Over-automation:** Tier 1 accounts need human judgment. --- ## ABM orchestration FAQs **What is ABM orchestration?** ABM orchestration is the coordination of marketing, sales, and customer teams around target accounts. It sets the order, timing, channel, and owner of each touch so accounts receive a consistent experience instead of overlapping or conflicting outreach. **What is the difference between ABM orchestration and ABM automation?** Automation runs a task when a rule is met, such as sending an email after a visit. Orchestration is the plan that decides which rules apply to which accounts, in what order, and who steps in manually when needed. **Why does ABM orchestration matter?** Without coordination, one account can get a call, an email, and an ad from different teams in the same week with different messages. Orchestration reduces that noise, shortens handoffs, and gives sales a clear next step when an account engages. **What do you need to start ABM orchestration?** You need a target account list, agreed account stages, clear ownership between marketing and sales, shared account data in your CRM, and a written set of plays that say what happens at each stage and who does it.
