# Account-based everything (ABE)

In short

Account-based everything (ABE) is a go-to-market approach in which sales, marketing, and customer success all organize their work around the same named accounts. Instead of each team running its own funnel, they share a target list, a plan, and metrics.

ABE extends account-based marketing beyond demand generation. It applies the account focus to prospecting, sales, onboarding, and expansion, so the buyer sees one consistent experience.

## What makes ABE different

Account-based marketing is led by marketing. Account-based sales is led by sales. ABE joins them, along with customer success, behind one account strategy.

### Shared account list

One agreed set of target and customer accounts.

### Shared metrics

Account-level goals such as engagement, pipeline, and expansion rather than separate lead counts per team.

### Shared plan

Coordinated plays across advertising, outreach, sales conversations, and customer success.

---

## How to run ABE

### 1. Align on the list

Select the accounts together using one ideal customer profile and tiering model.

### 2. Assign roles

Marketing creates air cover and content, sales development opens doors, account executives run deals, and customer success drives adoption and renewal.

### 3. Share data

Put account activity in one place so every team sees website visits, emails, meetings, and product usage.

### 4. Plan per tier

Give top-tier accounts a custom plan and lower tiers a repeatable program.

### 5. Review together

Hold a regular account review where all functions report on the same accounts.

---

## Example

Say a team targets 80 accounts. Marketing runs ads to buying committee members at each, sales development sends tailored outreach when someone visits the pricing page, and customer success joins calls for accounts that are already customers in another division. All three report on the same account list each week.

---

## Common mistakes

* **Renaming existing work:** Calling it ABE without changing lists, goals, or incentives changes nothing.
* **Mismatched incentives:** If marketing is paid on leads and sales on closed deals, shared account goals will not hold.
* **Too many accounts:** Coordination across three functions needs a manageable list.
* **No single owner:** Someone must run the cadence and keep data in sync.

## Account-based everything FAQs

**What is account-based everything (ABE)?**

Account-based everything is a go-to-market approach where sales, marketing, and customer success coordinate around the same named accounts. They share a target list, plans, data, and metrics so the buyer gets one consistent experience from first touch through renewal.

**What is the difference between ABE and ABM?**

Account-based marketing is a marketing-led strategy for engaging target accounts. Account-based everything extends the account focus to sales and customer success as well, so every function works from one list and one plan across the whole customer lifecycle.

**How do you implement account-based everything?**

Agree on one target account list, assign roles to marketing, sales development, sales, and customer success, put account activity in a shared view, create plans by account tier, and hold regular joint account reviews against shared goals.

**Does account-based everything work for small teams?**

It can. Small teams often find alignment easier because fewer people are involved. Keep the target list short, use a simple shared tracker, and meet weekly to review the same accounts together.
