[GTM glossary](/glossary.txt) Account-based experience ABM # Account-based experience (ABX) In short Account-based experience (ABX) is an approach that treats everything a target account sees and does with your company as one experience to design. It covers ads, emails, website content, sales conversations, onboarding, and support. Where account-based marketing focuses on getting target accounts to engage, ABX focuses on the quality and consistency of the whole journey. It asks whether the account's buying committee gets relevant, coordinated interactions at each step. ## Core ideas of ABX * **Account-level view:** Plan and measure by account, not by individual lead. * **Consistency:** Marketing, sales, and customer success use the same context and messaging. * **Personalization:** Content and outreach reflect the account's industry, priorities, and stage. * **Whole lifecycle:** The experience continues after the deal, through onboarding and expansion. --- ## How to apply ABX ### 1. Map the journey Write down every touchpoint a buying committee member has with you, from first ad to renewal conversation. ### 2. Find the breaks Look for places where messages repeat, contradict, or leave gaps, such as a rep asking questions the customer already answered in a form. ### 3. Share context Give all teams access to the same account notes, activity, and plans. ### 4. Personalize where it counts Tailor the highest-impact moments, such as first outreach, proposals, and onboarding, rather than everything. ### 5. Collect feedback Ask customers and prospects how the experience felt and adjust. --- ## Example Say a prospect reads a case study from your industry after seeing an ad. The rep who calls them next references that case study and the exact problem it covers. After signing, the onboarding lead receives the notes from the sales process so the customer does not repeat requirements. That continuity is what ABX aims for. --- ## ABX vs. ABM ABM is mainly about choosing and engaging target accounts. ABX is the broader aim of making every interaction with them coordinated and relevant. --- ## Common mistakes * **Treating ABX as a rebrand of ABM:** Without changes to handoffs and shared data, nothing improves. * **Personalizing everything:** Effort should go where it affects decisions. * **Ignoring post-sale:** Customer success is part of the experience. --- ## Account-based experience FAQs **What is account-based experience (ABX)?** Account-based experience is an approach that designs every interaction a target account has with your company, across marketing, sales, and customer success, as one coordinated and personalized journey. It goes beyond engagement to the consistency and relevance of each touchpoint. **What is the difference between ABX and ABM?** ABM focuses on selecting and engaging target accounts with tailored marketing and outreach. ABX is broader: it aims to make the entire journey, including sales conversations, onboarding, and support, feel connected and relevant to the account. **How do you build an account-based experience?** Map every touchpoint a buying committee has with you, find where messages conflict or leave gaps, share account context across teams, personalize the highest-impact moments, and collect customer feedback to refine the journey over time. **Who owns account-based experience?** No single team owns it. Marketing, sales, and customer success each control part of the journey, so many companies name one coordinator or a shared account team to keep the experience consistent.
