[GTM glossary](/glossary.txt) Account enrichment Data & Enrichment # Account enrichment In short Account enrichment is the process of adding missing or updated company-level data to the account records in your CRM or marketing system. Typical fields include industry, employee count, revenue range, location, technologies used, and parent company. It works at the company level. Contact-level fields such as job title or email are covered by lead or contact enrichment. Account enrichment gives every contact under an account the same trusted context. ## What account enrichment adds Most account records start with a name and a domain. Enrichment fills in the rest. * **Firmographics:** Industry, size, revenue, headquarters, and founding year. * **Technographics:** Software and infrastructure the company uses. * **Structure:** Parent company, subsidiaries, and locations. * **Context:** Funding, hiring, and leadership changes that can act as triggers. --- ## How to run it ### 1. Pick a unique key Match on the web domain wherever possible. Company names are ambiguous, and domains avoid most duplicate and mismatch problems. ### 2. Decide which fields matter Enrich only the fields your ICP, scoring, and routing rules use. Extra fields add clutter and cost. ### 3. Set overwrite rules Decide whether enriched values replace existing ones. A common rule is to never overwrite fields a rep edited by hand. ### 4. Refresh on a schedule Company data changes. Re-enrich active accounts regularly and new accounts on creation. --- ## Example Say a team has 5,000 accounts and only a third have an industry value. Territory routing and the ICP score both depend on industry, so many accounts fall into a catch-all queue. After enrichment fills industry and employee count, the team can route accounts by segment and rank them against the ICP. --- ## Common mistakes * **Enriching without a clean base:** Duplicate accounts get enriched twice and stay duplicates. Deduplicate first. * **Ignoring hierarchy:** Enriching a subsidiary without linking its parent hides the real buying group. * **No ownership:** Without an owner, rules drift and fields go stale. --- ## Account vs. lead enrichment Account enrichment improves company records. Lead enrichment improves person records. Most teams need both, and account data should flow down to the contacts. --- ## Account enrichment FAQs **What is account enrichment in a CRM?** Account enrichment in a CRM means automatically filling in missing company details, such as industry, employee count, location, and technologies, on account records. It lets teams segment, score, and route accounts without researching each one by hand. **What data is used for account enrichment?** Account enrichment typically uses firmographic data such as industry and size, technographic data such as tools in use, company hierarchy, location, and trigger data such as funding or hiring. Teams should enrich only the fields their rules use. **How often should accounts be re-enriched?** Re-enrich new accounts when they are created and active accounts on a regular schedule, such as quarterly. Fast-changing fields like headcount and technologies go stale sooner than fields like industry, so match refresh frequency to field volatility. **What is the difference between account enrichment and lead enrichment?** Account enrichment adds company-level data to account records, while lead enrichment adds person-level data such as job title, email, or phone to contact and lead records. Both feed segmentation, scoring, and routing in different ways.
