# Account insights

In short

Account insights are the conclusions you can draw about a specific company that help you decide whether and how to engage it. They come from combining facts, such as size, tools, hiring, news, and your own interaction history, into a point of view.

Insights differ from raw data. A fact is that a company hired three data engineers. An insight is that it is probably building a data platform, so a conversation about data quality could be timely. Account intelligence is the broader capability that produces insights consistently.

## Sources of account insights

* **Company data:** Size, industry, location, funding, and structure.
* **Technology:** Tools in use, newly adopted tools, and gaps.
* **People:** Leadership changes, new hires, and open roles.
* **Public content:** Earnings remarks, press, blog posts, and job descriptions.
* **Your own history:** Past deals, conversations, support tickets, and engagement.

## From data to insight

### Ask a question

Start with what a rep needs to know: why this company, why now, and who should we talk to.

### Combine at least two sources

One fact rarely tells a story. A new executive plus several open roles in her team suggests a planned change.

### State it as a hypothesis

Write it as a sentence such as: they are expanding into a new region and may need local compliance support. Then check it in conversation.

### Attach an action

An insight that does not change what the rep does is just trivia.

---

## Example

Say a rep sees that a target account opened five sales roles, moved its CRM to a new vendor, and appointed a new head of revenue operations. The insight: the company is rebuilding its sales process. The rep opens with a question about how they plan to handle lead routing during the change, not a generic pitch.

---

## Common mistakes

* **Long research, no output:** Keep a short note: three facts, one hypothesis, one next step.
* **Stale information:** Check dates on every source.
* **Overconfidence:** Treat insights as hypotheses until a contact confirms them.
* **Insights stuck in one tool:** Put them where reps work, usually the CRM.

## Account insights FAQs

**What are account insights?**

Account insights are conclusions about a specific company that guide how you engage it. They come from combining facts like size, tools, hiring, news, and past interactions into a view of its priorities and timing.

**What is the difference between account insights and account data?**

Data is the raw fact, such as a hiring count or a tool in use. An insight is the interpretation of those facts, such as a likely project or need, along with what a rep should do about it.

**How do you find account insights?**

Gather company data, technology information, leadership and hiring changes, public content, and your own interaction history. Combine at least two sources, write a short hypothesis about the account, and test it in conversation.

**How do sales teams use account insights?**

Reps use them to choose the right accounts, open with relevant questions, tailor messages to roles, and time outreach. A short note per account with key facts, a hypothesis, and a next step is usually enough.
