# Agile sales

In short

Agile sales is a way of running a sales team that borrows from agile software development: work in short cycles, test small changes, review results often, and adjust quickly. Instead of locking in a plan for the year, the team treats messaging, targeting, and process as hypotheses to prove or drop.

The goal is to learn what works in the current market faster than a rigid process allows. It suits teams selling in changing markets, launching new products, or finding product-market fit.

## How agile sales works

Agile sales teams run in sprints, usually one to two weeks. Each sprint has a small set of goals and ends with a review.

### Sprint planning

The team picks one or two experiments, such as a new opening line for a segment or a different call-to-action in a sequence. Each has a clear success measure set in advance.

### Daily or weekly standups

Short check-ins surface blockers on live deals and early results from the experiment.

### Sprint review and retro

The team looks at what happened, keeps what worked, drops what did not, and picks the next experiment.

## Agile sales in practice

Say a team of six SDRs suspects that opening with a customer story beats opening with a feature. Three reps use each version for two weeks on similar accounts. At the review they compare reply and meeting rates, then move everyone to the better version and test a new subject line next.

## Agile vs. traditional sales planning

* **Planning horizon:** Traditional plans cover a quarter or year. Agile plans cover a sprint.
* **Change:** Traditional teams change the plan at scheduled reviews. Agile teams change it whenever evidence says so.
* **Feedback:** Agile teams collect feedback from buyers and reps continuously, not once a year.

---

## Common mistakes

* **Testing too many things at once:** If you change the list, message, and channel together, you cannot tell which change mattered.
* **Tiny samples:** Judging an experiment on a handful of replies leads to false conclusions. Set a minimum volume first.
* **Constant churn:** Agile does not mean abandoning the core process every week. Keep stable basics and experiment at the edges.
* **No owner:** Someone, often RevOps or a sales manager, needs to run the cadence and record decisions.

## Agile sales FAQs

**What is agile sales?**

Agile sales is a selling approach that uses short cycles, quick experiments, and regular reviews instead of a fixed annual plan. Teams test messaging, targeting, and process changes in small steps and keep only what produces better results.

**How do you implement agile sales on a sales team?**

Start with one-to-two-week sprints. Pick a single experiment per sprint, define the success measure up front, hold a short weekly check-in, and finish with a review that decides what to keep, drop, or test next.

**What is the difference between agile sales and traditional sales?**

Traditional sales follows a plan set for a quarter or year and changes it at scheduled reviews. Agile sales works in short sprints and adjusts the approach whenever new evidence from buyers or results shows something is not working.

**What are the benefits of agile sales for SDR and AE teams?**

Agile sales shortens the time between an idea and its result, so teams learn what resonates with buyers faster. It also gives reps a voice in what is tested and reduces time spent on approaches that clearly are not working.
