Contextual Intelligence & AI

# AI copilot

In short

An AI copilot is an AI assistant embedded in a workflow that helps a person complete their work, for example by drafting an email, summarizing a call, or suggesting the next step. The human decides what to accept.

The key trait is that the person stays in the driver’s seat. This is different from an AI agent, which carries out a task more independently. Many products mix both modes.

## What copilots do for GTM teams

* **Sales:** Summarize calls, suggest follow-ups, and draft emails from CRM context.
* **Marketing:** Draft copy variants, outline content, and summarize performance.
* **RevOps:** Explain pipeline changes and help write reports or formulas.

---

## Copilot vs. agent

* **Copilot:** Responds to a request or suggests at the moment of work. A person approves each step.
* **Agent:** Takes a goal and runs several steps itself, with checkpoints.

---

## Getting value from a copilot

### Give it context

Suggestions improve when the copilot can see account history, notes, and the playbook. Without context, it writes generic text.

### Use it for first drafts

Treat output as a starting point. Edit for facts, tone, and specifics.

### Set shared prompts

Save prompts that work, such as a call summary format, so the team gets consistent output.

---

## Example

After a discovery call, a rep asks the copilot for a summary with pain points, stakeholders, and next steps. It produces a draft in seconds. The rep corrects two details and pastes it into the CRM, saving the manual note-taking.

---

## Common mistakes

* **Copy-paste without review:** Unchecked drafts can contain wrong facts.
* **Sharing sensitive data carelessly:** Check what data the tool stores or uses for training, and follow company policy.

## AI copilot FAQs

**What is an AI copilot?**

An AI copilot is an assistant built into your software that suggests, drafts, and summarizes to help you work faster, while you stay in control and decide what to use. Examples include drafting emails or summarizing calls.

**What is the difference between an AI copilot and an AI agent?**

A copilot helps a person during their work and waits for approval at each step. An AI agent takes a goal and carries out multiple steps more independently, usually with set checkpoints for human review.

**How do sales teams use an AI copilot?**

Sales teams use copilots to summarize calls, draft follow-up emails, prepare for meetings, and suggest next steps from CRM data. Reps review and edit the output before it reaches a customer.

**Are AI copilots safe for company data?**

It depends on the vendor and settings. Check how the tool stores data, whether inputs train models, and what access it has. Follow your security policy and avoid pasting sensitive information into unapproved tools.
