# Brand

In short

A brand is the sum of what people think and feel about a company, product, or person. It includes the name and visual identity, but also the promises you make and whether you keep them.

In B2B, a brand lowers perceived risk. A buyer who already knows and trusts a company needs less convincing, and sales conversations start further along. This page covers the brand itself; see branding and brand marketing for the activities.

## What makes up a brand

* **Identity:** Name, logo, colors, and design.
* **Voice:** How the company writes and speaks.
* **Positioning:** The space it claims in the buyer's mind.
* **Experience:** Product quality, support, and how sales treats people.

---

## Why brand matters in B2B

Buying committees are cautious and the decision is costly to reverse. A familiar, trusted brand makes the shortlist more often, and makes cold outreach more likely to get a reply because the name is recognized.

---

## Example

Say two vendors offer a similar product at a similar price. A buyer has seen one vendor's content for a year and heard colleagues mention it. That vendor gets the first call, even before features are compared.

---

## How to build a brand

Decide who you serve and what you stand for in one sentence.

Write down voice and visual guidelines so all teams stay consistent.

Show the same message across website, ads, emails, and sales calls.

Back claims with customer proof and a good product experience.

---

## Common mistakes

* **Brand as a logo:** Design alone does not build perception.
* **Inconsistency:** Different messages in each channel blur it.
* **Measuring only clicks:** Brand effects appear over months, in awareness and shortlist rates.

## Brand FAQs

**What is a brand in marketing?**

A brand is the overall perception people have of a company, formed by its name, visual identity, messaging, product, and customer experiences. It shapes how buyers feel about the company before and during a purchase.

**What is the difference between a brand and a logo?**

A logo is one visual element that identifies a company. A brand is the full perception, including reputation, voice, promises, and experience. A logo can support a brand, but cannot create it alone.

**Why does brand matter in B2B?**

B2B purchases are high-stakes and involve several people. A trusted brand lowers perceived risk, helps a company reach shortlists, and makes outreach more likely to get a response because buyers already recognize the name.

**How do you measure brand strength?**

Common measures include aided and unaided awareness surveys, branded search volume, direct traffic, share of voice, and how often buyers mention you unprompted. They are tracked over time because brand effects build slowly.
