[GTM glossary](/glossary.txt) Company data Data & Enrichment # Company data In short Company data is information about an organization rather than about an individual person. It includes basic facts such as name, domain, industry, headcount, and revenue, and often extends to technology use, funding, and corporate structure. GTM teams use company data to build target lists, score accounts, route leads, and tailor messaging. It is also called account data. Contact data is the people-level counterpart. ## Common types of company data * **Firmographics:** Industry, employee count, revenue, location, and ownership. * **Technographics:** The software and tools a company uses. * **Financial and funding:** Funding rounds, investors, and growth stage. * **Hierarchy:** Parent and subsidiary relationships. * **Activity:** Hiring, news, and other events tied to the company. --- ## Where it comes from Providers collect it from public records, company websites, job postings, filings, and partner sources. Your own CRM adds first-party data such as deal history. Quality varies by source, so know the origin and the last update date of each field. --- ## How to use company data well ### Anchor everything on the domain A company website domain is the most reliable key for matching records across tools. Names are messy; domains are not. ### Standardize fields Use consistent values for industry, country, and size ranges so filters and reports work. ### Define a required set Say a team scores accounts on industry, size, and region. Then those three fields must be filled before an account enters a campaign. --- ## Common mistakes * **Ignoring freshness:** Headcount and funding change quickly. Check dates. * **Duplicate accounts:** The same company entered under several names splits history and skews reports. * **Collecting without use:** Fields nobody filters or scores on add cost and clutter. --- ## Company data FAQs **What is company data?** Company data is information about businesses, including industry, size, revenue, location, technology, and funding.
