# Fit and intent matrix

Also known as: fit vs intent, ICP fit and intent, account scoring matrix

In short

A fit and intent matrix is a two-axis grid. One axis is fit: how closely an account matches your ideal customer profile. The other is intent: how strongly it is showing signs of an active buying cycle.

Each quadrant calls for a different play, so reps stop treating every account the same.

## The four quadrants

### High fit, high intent

Your hottest accounts. Route to sales immediately with a personalized, signal-based message.

### High fit, low intent

Right company, wrong moment. Nurture with content and ads, and watch for triggers.

### Low fit, high intent

Interested but unlikely to succeed. Qualify carefully or send to a low-touch path.

### Low fit, low intent

Deprioritize. Do not spend rep time here.

---

## How to build a fit score

Assign points to each ICP trait, such as industry, size, and tech stack, and subtract points for negative ICP traits. Sum them into a fit score. Build the intent score from signals such as pricing page visits, hiring, and funding, weighting recent and high-signal events more.

---

## Why use both scores

Fit alone creates long lists of accounts that are not buying. Intent alone chases noisy signals from companies that will never succeed. Together they point reps at accounts that are both right and ready.

## Fit and intent matrix FAQs

**What is a fit and intent matrix?**

A fit and intent matrix is a grid that ranks accounts on two dimensions: how well they match your ideal customer profile and how strongly they show buying intent. It helps teams choose the right action for each account.

**What is a fit score?**

A fit score is a numerical rating of how closely an account matches your ICP. It adds points for desirable traits like industry and company size and subtracts points for disqualifying traits.

**What should you do with high-fit, low-intent accounts?**

Keep them warm with relevant content, ads, and light outreach, and monitor for trigger events such as funding, new hires, or job postings. When intent rises, move them into active sales outreach.
